Burdenko Neurosurgical Center is the largest neurosurgery clinic in the world. We help patients suffering from the central and peripheral nervous system diseases.

The Center stated its work since January 1929 when N.N. Burdenko and his collegues made the first neursurgical operation. Over the 90 years of its work, the Burdenko Clinic has established long-standing clinical and scientific traditions that ensure a high level of neurosurgical pathology diagnostics and treatment.

Patients from different countries all over the world come to the Burdenko Neurosurgical Center for diagnosis and treatment.

Diagnosis in Burdenko Neurosurgical Center

The diagnostic complex of the Neurosurgical Center permits allows performing the most complicated and high-tech diagnostic studies, carrying out absolutely complete examination and detection of the CNS pathology based on the latest high-tech methods including:

Hospitalization in Burdenko Neurosurgical Center

Annually, more than 8 thousand patients are admitted to the Center, 15 operating rooms make it possible to operate up to 50 patients daily. In more than 90% of cases the surgical outcome is positive.

Patients are treated in specialized clinical departments. Comfortable single and twin wards, qualified and friendly medical staff, good meals help neurosurgical patients to tolerate psychological stress, physical illness.

Accommodation for accompanying persons

A comfortable hotel (temporary accommodation) is located on the territory of the Center. It allows accommodation of relatives and accompanying persons of patients treated and examined in the Center.

Regulation for the foreign patient hospitalization

The patient should have:

  • passport with a valid visa and migration card (for the citizens from distant foreign countries); passport with migration card (for the citizens from neighboring countries);
  • passport translated;
  • the results of clinical laboratory studies and doctors' conclusions in accordance with Burdenko centre requirements;
  • comfortable clothes, replaceable footwear, drugs constantly taken, mobile phone with a recharger.

The documents required for children hospitalization:

  • the birth certificate;
  • the child and attendant passports;
  • the passport and certificate of birth translated;
  • results of clinical laboratory studies and doctors' conclusions (the name of a medical institution and date of investigations);
  • certified power of attorney from the child’s parents to legal representative.

At admission a child should obtain:

  • home clothes;
  • replaceable footwear;
  • toiletries (tooth paste and brush, toilet paper, soap, towel);
  • cup for drinking, teaspoon.

An accompanying person should have hygienic kit, replaceable footwear and slippers. The legal representative has the right to stay in the chamber together with a child depending on the child’s age.

Outpatient services in Burdenko Neurosurgical Center

Advanced technologies play a much more important role in treatment of neurosurgical patients. Now, the Department of radiosurgery and radiotherapy opened in 2005 is equipped with three linear electron accelerators: TrueBeam (Varian Medical Systems Inc. USA), Novalis (Varian Medical System Inc. USA) and CyberKnife (Accuray, USA) used in primary and secondary CNS tumors, vascular diseases (arteriovenous malformation, fistula, cavernomas, etc.), functional injuries (trigeminal neurology, epilepsy, some motor and psychiatric diseases). For the 14 years (from 2005 to 2019) more than 20 000 patients aged 7 months — 85 years have been treated.

Day hospital for outpatient chemotherapy provides good results.

Pre-registration is through the call center by phone number +7 499 972-86-67.

The patient should contact the registry of the scientific advisory department to open an outpatient medical record.

Working hours:

  • Monday — Friday 8.00 — 20.00;
  • Saturday and Sunday — days off.

One should obtain:

  • passport;
  • passport translated;
  • medical documentation (dated within one month), if available.

Documents necessary for consulting a child aged under 18:

  • birth certificate;
  • passport of one of the parents;
  • legal representatives, who are not parents, should have legally executed power of attorney for the child examination and treatment.

Service payment

Medical and service payment is made before examination and treatment at the rates of N.N. Burdenko National Medical Research Center of Neurosurgery of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation in cash or by credit card in the Department of Paid Services.

By a preliminary request, the interpreter service could be provided; it should be paid in cash at the rates of the firm cooperating with the N.N.Burdenko Center of Neurosurgery. Additional information about foreign patient consultation is available by phone +7 499 972-86-99.

For English speaking persons the extension number is 21−01. For Spanish speaking persons — the extension number is 22−55, for CIS citizens — 21−04 and 24−21. Working hours — Monday — Friday 8.30−13.00, 13.30−17.00 Moscow time.

Correspondence treatment

For making a decision on expedience of hospitalization, treatment plan and approximate price one should provide the updated medical documentation. More information is only welcome. You can send your request by e-mail dps@nsi.ru

This information should include clinical case report (medical history), MRI and CT scans in the DICOM format (dated 1−3 months), if available, results of analyses, conclusions on histology, reports on chemotherapy (if available). All the documentation should be short, updated and informative.

Within several days a patient would get an e-mail in Russian concerning

  • the expediency of the patient arrival for consultation and treatment in the centre;
  • medical and service costs, methods of payment;
  • duration of examination, treatment and postoperative observation;
  • interpreter service if necessary;
  • working hours, address of the Institute;
  • other information.

The Informative letter sent to a patient, is not to be considered an invitation for getting the Russian visa.

The Center’s doctors will need 4 working days to process the information and decide about the treatment.

The arrival date will be appointed depending on patient’s preferences and the surgical schedule. However, the patient’s state is the first priority. The patient should bring the original medical documentation.
